How to put on a condom

We're going to show you how to put on a condom!

Things you need to know before using a condom

The condom should be put on an erect penis or a dildo. A dildo is a sex toy that is shaped like a penis or rod. It is important that the condom stays on the entire time you are having sexual intercourse. This is to make sure that the condom protects you against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and pregnancy.

If ejaculation occurs in the condom, be careful when pulling out the penis. Make sure that no semen leaks out.

It can be a good idea to practise putting on a condom correctly. If you have a penis, you can practise by putting on a condom when you are masturbating. If you do not have a penis, you can use a dildo or a carrot to practise on, for example.

How to use a condom

  • Take the condom out of the packaging.
  • Check which way it should be rolled on.
  • If the condom is being put on a penis, the penis must be hard when the condom is rolled on.
  • Put the condom on the tip of the glans. Then pinch the top of the condom with your fingers so that no air is left. Roll the condom down.
  • Make sure that the entire condom is rolled out. The condom is often longer than the penis. In that case, you can slide it up a little so that it becomes wrinkled. You can then continue rolling it out.
  • Take the condom off before the erection has softened. If you have had sex, hold the condom down at the base of the penis while pulling out the penis. This holds the condom in place and stops sperm from leaking out.
  • Throw the condom in the bin. Do not flush it down the toilet.

Use lubricant — do not use skin cream or oil

Condoms are often treated with lubricant to make them comfortable to use. You can also use extra lubricant. This is especially important during anal sex. There are different types of lubricant. Water-based and silicone-based lubricants can be used with all types of condoms.

You should not use skin cream or oil. Also avoid lubricants that contain oil. The grease can damage the condom and make small holes in it.
